One move gives checkmate:

  1. Qe1# (e5 to e1). After this move, the black queen on e1 gives check to the white king on g1, and White has no legal move: checkmate. The white king on g1 has no safe square to go to (f1, f2, g2, h1 and h2). Its own pawn on f2, pawn on g2 and pawn on h2 stand in the way. f1 is covered by the black queen on e1. h1 is covered by the black queen on e1. No white piece can capture the black queen on e1. No white piece can move to f1 to block the check.

Our code tried every legal move of Black in this position: this is the only move that gives checkmate.
