What we process and why
- Delivering the website and keeping it secure. When you open a page, our hosting provider (Cloudflare, Inc.) necessarily processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. This is needed to send you the page and to protect the site from abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f); KVKK Art. 5(2)(f)). The provider also uses some of this data for its own purposes, such as protecting its network against attacks, as described in its privacy policy. The provider may set a security cookie, for example when it checks whether a visitor is a bot; the provider describes its cookies as strictly necessary for its services. Our pages themselves set no cookies.
- Overall traffic numbers. We look at totals our hosting provider reports (for example number of requests, approximate visitors and countries). We do not run analytics scripts and we do not follow individual visitors across pages or visits.
- Search reports. We use Google Search Console to see how our pages appear in search results (searches, clicks, positions). These reports are compiled by the search engines from activity on their own sites; nothing is placed on your device by our pages for this.
- Emails you send us. If you email us (for example to report an error), we use your email address and message to reply and to correct the data. Emails to contact@chessopeningscores.com are delivered directly to our mailbox at Google (Google Workspace), which stores them for us as our email provider. Legal basis: replying to your request (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)/(f); KVKK Art. 5(2)(c)/(f)). How long we keep them: see below.
We do not use analytics scripts, advertising or social-media plug-ins, and we do not sell personal data. We do not make automated decisions about you.
Where data is processed
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, Inc., is based in the United States and processes data on its global network. Data about your visit may therefore be processed outside Türkiye and the EU, including in the United States. Our email provider, Google, may process emails in any country where it or its sub-processors have facilities, including outside Türkiye.
Cloudflare's standard customer terms include a data processing addendum with the EU standard contractual clauses for personal data from the EU, the UK and Switzerland. We have not signed a separate standard contract under the Turkish data protection law (KVKK) for these transfers.
How long data is kept
- Visit data. Our hosting provider's documentation lists a retention of 31 days on our plan for the request and security records it shows us, which can include IP addresses. We do not download or keep copies of these records; we only note overall totals. The provider keeps data it uses for its own purposes, such as network security, according to its own privacy policy.
- Emails. We keep emails until the matter is closed and delete them from our mailbox within 12 months after that, unless a documented legal obligation or a dispute requires us to keep them longer. Deleted emails stay in the trash for up to 30 days unless we empty it sooner. After that, Google deletes them from its systems under its own terms.
Your rights
You can ask us for access to your personal data, correction, deletion or restriction, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and receive your data in a portable format where this applies (GDPR Art. 15–21; KVKK Art. 11). You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) or the authority in your EU country or the UK. Contact us at the email above.
Changes
We update this notice before we change how the site works (for example before adding any analytics). The date of the last meaningful change appears at the bottom of each page.
