Show the solution
One move gives checkmate:
- Qxg1# (d4 to g1). After this move, the black queen on g1 gives check to the white king on e1, and White has no legal move: checkmate. The white king on e1 has no safe square to go to (d1, d2, e2, f1 and f2). Its own pawn on e2 stands in the way. d1 is covered by the black rook on d8 and the black queen on g1. d2 is covered by the black rook on d8. f1 is covered by the black queen on g1 and the black bishop on h3. f2 is covered by the black queen on g1. No white piece can capture the black queen on g1. No white piece can move to f1 to block the check.
Our code tried every legal move of Black in this position: this is the only move that gives checkmate.
